Making the decision to commission a portrait is exciting.
It is an heirloom that not only portrays a likeness, but also represents
a special time period in a family's history.
The
portrait process begins with a phone or email conversation to discuss the
general
wishes of the client regarding approximate portrait size, whether the pose is to
be formal
or informal, and the planned location where the portrait will hang.
Whenever possible, a meeting is scheduled to develop the details of the
portrait.
Setting, background, clothing and overall mood to be portrayed are determined.
Photographs may be taken at that meeting or a separate photography session may
be
scheduled. In cases where a client/artist meeting is not possible, a
selection of
favorite photographs may be used as the reference.
Cathy and the client select the best reference photos; in many cases
the final pose may be a composite of several photographs.
Cathy will then paint the portrait in her studio. She may schedule an
additional
meeting to add finishing touches.
Completion times may vary. The client approves the final work by either
an 8x10 photo or by scheduling a meeting with Cathy. Following final
approval,
arrangements are made for delivery of the finished portrait.
Framing is not included in the pricing, though Cathy will be happy to
assist with frame selection.
